Maybe an older Mac Mini...?

So I took my new Beige era Apple SCSI Hard Drive (M2115 730mb model) to the Apple store to compare it to the new Mac Mini. I was hoping to Jam one inside of the retro case. No such luck, the new mac Mini is a bit wide. Perhaps an Older model would fit better. If not, It'll make a swell USB case for a time capsule.

...or maybe a mini RAID made of 2.5" drives.

So Its come to this. Computer port extravaganza!

Look at all them ports!

Look at that. Both 400 and 800 firewire on the back. Don't they just make cables that do the 800 to 400 conversion (I know they do, I have one)? Aside from that I am impressed that this external drive offers so many ports. Its a Hitachi 2TB Duo Pro Quad Raid External Hard Drive available on sellout.woot (SOLD OUT). But... does anyone know why it has the USB B-type port (standard on printers) instead of the standard mini USB port that most HDDs have? Post answers in the comments.

btw, check out these craptastic reviews on the Best Buy site.

and here is a permalink to its 4tb brother on amazon

UPDATE: They actually sold out of them. that was fast. I was actually interested in getting it just for the HDDs, but I figured they'd be 5400s and therefore not worth it.

Whats the deal with mail in rebates? (say it in a Signfeld voice)

Our story starts with a stressed out Macbook Pro and the standard 32bit OS maximum ram of 4gb. How will this lead to the subject of Mail in Rebates? shut up and read on after the jump.

Best ending to a comic ever.

I've been meaning to write an article about Don Rosa for several months now, But the subject is going to be a big undertaking on my part. The abridged version is that he wrote Uncle Scrooge Comics. But not silly Disney tails, He wrote adventure stories that rivaled Herge's Tintin and Indiana Jones at times.

Recently I was reading through an archive of his stories (disneycomics.free.) and I found one I had never read. It was a riveting read and well, I just wanted to share the final panel with you:

from the link above

First of all, sorry If I spoiled the story, But look at the Bottom Two Bubbles. One is of Huey, Dewy, and Louie opening THE ARK OF THE COVENANT! and the fourth is a bubble of Donald Duck trying the piece back together the frickin' HOLY GRAIL, which he broke smashing some guy over the head. Yeah, even Indiana Jones didn't have the balls to look inside the ark.

I'm saying two things, One, Check back here at some point for a whole Don Rosa Disney comic write up, and two, check that link, all the comics are there!

Setting the record straight on the Marz Bar Shirts

I broke the Sink again

This month my favorite (and only true) bar closed. The bar, was Mars Bar, 25 e 1st St NYC. Over the past 5 years I've been making shirts for the place, since the place went down tons of folks have started wailing about how people always rush in to make a buck off the carcase of anything with even remote meaning to those perceived as 'interesting' or 'different'. Trying to buy into being the outsider minus the true experience (Remember CBGB's? Most people don't, but that doesn't mean they don't own a shirt). Anyways, I wanted to quietly clear the air on the Marz Bar shirts. Instead of posting on every site with someone decrying commercialization in the comments of a Mars article, I decided to say my little piece here. Read on after the jump.

New Ghostbusters... Pachinco?

Two things I adore that spell checkers don't: Ghostbusters and Pachinko. Read on after the jump

The one where I talk about what everyone else is talking about.

Which Is to say, Portal 2. Not since the Game Cube have I gotten a Video game item on its launch HOUR (I happened to be walking by a Software Etc in NYC (November 18th 2001) the night it was happening (drunk) and when I woke up the next day... game cube! (I sold it two years later and made most of my money back, Thanks Mitch!)
Any who, Portal 2! Its phenomenal and on April 19th 12:07am I activated my copy and started playing. It is frickin' awesome, and ever so much fun. Great (funny) story so far that I find myself quite invested in. I've even Played some co-operative mode with my boy Vince of Tek Support and look forward to a few more multi player games in the next few days.

So why do I find it necessary to talk about video Games? Well, first off, I don't play new video games all that often. I can count on one hand the new release games I've played in the past two years (Bio-shock 1+2, Batman Arkham, Dead Space, and Ghostbusters) and any other game playing is done on my iPhone, iPad, or Virtual Boy (don't judge). So what I'm saying is that a Game has to be great for me just to consider, but to play on Launch HOUR (minute almost) well, thats all the praise anyone should need from me.
So... um... leave me alone, I need to Play more Portal 2. bye!

If God had a PC this would be the case

Well, assuming he/she/it uses a desktop (and yes, he/she/it does use a PC. probably runs Linux... well, his/hers/its own version of it at any rate) He/she/it would use this case (assuming he/she/it doesn't rack mount). Actually, he/she/it has been using this case for millennial, but only recently decided we were worthy of using it. Behold, The Thermaltake Level 10:

Bustin' makes me feel oh so good

I haven’t made it known yet on this site, but I am a HUGE Ghostbusters fan. In high school I ran a Ghostbusters action figure site (article coming soon) and was an active member of the Ghostbusters community (I went by the name Ecto-Glow if your curious). I ran across this today on via Topless robot on  Toy news International and just wow:

I'm not on Crack, But that guy was

Way back in the Late 90s, when I lived in NYC I used to spend a lot of time on Saint Marks Place. For those of you who aren't familiar with this area it was the Punk Nexus of New York's 5 burros during the 80s and 90s. Me being a (not so) little punk at the time I was always there; attending Coney Island High concerts (a post for another time), stealing ugly shirts from "Freaks", drinking 40s on stoops, and doing generally regrettable things.
Anyway, on a particular night after school me and a few of my more reputable friends were stumbling down Saint Marks Place with nothing specific in mind when we hear yelling. Not just any yelling, but that special type of yelling that is directed at you in particular. The kind that immediately evokes the fight for flight response. Myself and one of my companions immediately take the "I'm gonna fight you even though I will inevitably get my ass kicked" stance while companion #2 and my girlfriend at the time took the more traditional "duck and cover" position. Mind you this is all with no idea what has yet to come screaming up the block at us.
So our supposed assailants come driving up the block in some malaise era car (something people in New your are not used to, who the hell drives in NYC?). Before I can register anything the people in the car yell "you look like your into punk you need to check this demo out its fucking awesome and you need to hear it now" or something along those lines. Immediately three demo tapes are flung at our heads, one of which is dead on target, bouncing off my cranium with that plasticy tape case sound. And off they went!

Old Marz Bar shirt

I may be bringing this back for sale (apparently Marz will be closing its doors soon. LAME!) but since I'm not in NYC it makes the shirt really hard to sell (can't leave them at the bar, they will disappear). Any suggestions as to how to distribute these that won't suck, I'm thinking ebay, maybe even bulk lots.

Megaforce was great

This is my first blog in a while, so I'm going to take it slow and experiment with re-posts and images for the first few days. Chances are this post won't be here in a week or two. so enjoy its pointlessness for now.

UPDATE: Its still here!
